Worksop Town Academy Launches Exciting New Development Squads
The Worksop Town Academy Development Squad Programme is an incredible opportunity for young footballers to take their game to the next level. Whether your child is just starting out or already showing great potential, this programme will provide the perfect platform for development.
Worksop Town Academy is proud to announce the launch of our brand-new Development Squad Programme, designed to extend our reach across the community and provide even more young players with access to high-quality training and competitive football.
This exciting initiative offers players the opportunity to take part in weekly training sessions led by our UEFA-qualified coaching staff and compete in Saturday league matches at a highly competitive level.
A Stepping Stone to Worksop Town Academy & Opportunity to Compliment Your Current Grassroots Team!
Building on the success of our academy programmes, these development squads will act as a crucial stepping stone for young players aspiring to join the full academy setup. By broadening our reach, we are not only increasing opportunities for players locally but also enhancing coaching development across the region.
The Development Squads will be directly linked to Worksop Town Academy, with training sessions held every Monday evening at Sandy Lane with these sessions will run from 5:00 PM onwards and will be available to players in the U7-U12 age groups for the 2025/26 season.
For our youngest age group, the U7 squad will begin as a training-only programme, gradually transitioning into competitive football depending on league availability, with matches expected to commence in January 2026.

Academy Director, Laurie Griffin, shared his excitement about the new initiative:
“Our Academy has been successfully running for five wonderful years, growing year after year. With such high demand to join our programme, we want to expand our reach and provide even more young footballers with the opportunity to develop their skills in a professional environment.”
Lead Coach, Harrison Applegate, echoed this enthusiasm:
“I can’t wait to get started on this project and bring even more young footballers into our development system. With our fantastic facilities, expert coaching team, and strong player and parent communities, we’re creating an environment where children can thrive both on and off the pitch. This programme isn’t just about football—it’s about building lifelong friendships and fostering a love for the game in a positive and supportive setting.”
The development programme is also an opportunity for Worksop Town Academy to widen its regional footprint by introducing sessions at Goals, Doncaster on Wednesday evenings from 17.30pm where teams will be formed to enter into the Doncaster JPL league.
